| Title | Reader's Clinic - Different Id Same Record |
| Keywords | ID KEY CONVERSION SPACE |
| Text | A London subscriber had a problem caused by a special user defined conversion The analyst implementing the system decided to prevent spaces from being entered into the key by a user DEFINED conversion replacing CHAR(32) WITH CHAR(0) The strange effect was that when DIFFERENT keys were entered (EG P/L&S/11/1 and P/L&S/11/5 WITH the CHAR(0) not shown) they appeared separately on the browse list or in a list command but altering one produced exactly the same alteration in the other The system whilst acknowledging that the ids were different insisted that the records were the same!
