taken if an error of severity greater than 0 is met DURING certain file io
operations If this variable is set to 1 these errors are passed back to the
program performing the io operation to deal WITH If set to 0 the system
will handle these errors automatically This can be used to advantage when
errors are expected and the program wished to deal WITH them DIRECT rather
than have the system interrupt For further information see p49 of the
